Creating Change
We (Patti and Jeff) are always creating and seizing opportunities to have a positive impact on healthcare.
Our actions are currently focused on a few areas:
Action 1:
Reach out to mental health systems.
Action 2:
Build a workforce for tomorrow by expanding university training on primary care behavioral health.
Action 3:
Speak to your doctor: Boosting patient advocacy for integration.
Both of us have for many years helped primary care systems that want to integrate. Now, we are looking for mental health systems that have an interest in growing their reach through primary care integration. Got a concern or question? Reach out and we’ll do our best to help out.
Perhaps the largest obstacle to integrated care expansion is the lack of a mental health workforce trained for integrated care work. To remedy this, we are working with university professors and instructors to develop new classes that align with workforce needs. We can help create lesson plans, slides for lectures, video clips, test banks, and other materials for courses on integrated care, including brief interventions for work in generalist roles.
Integration dissemination efforts have typically been responses to demand from healthcare systems and clinicians who want to provide better care. We hope to complement this by creating demand from consumers. We have taken to the airwaves and popular media to spread the word about integration and have materials on this webpage designed to help patients advocate for integrated care in their own primary care clinic.
